COWS AND CALVES

Galloway cattle are excellent for conservation since they thrive on really rough grazing. They produce a calf a year and live well in to their teens, they are excellent mothers with plenty of milk. They are a good maternal foundation for naturally produced beef.

Galloway steers - we often have some for sale, they are slow to mature BUT the meat is full of flavour and just melts in the mouth - well worth the wait. While you wait they improve the grazing for sheep by removing the excess roughage.

Galloway heifers - again we usually have some for sale - we prefer to sell privately and visitors are welcome.

For those wishing to introduce cattle to improve the land, we are happy to provide a selection of cows and heifers of various ages so that a small herd can be started up

QUOTE FROM A RECENT PURCHASER
“The cattle are as good as you described and they are certainly a credit to the galloway breed for their shapes”

Erray Galloways helping the National Trust and English Nature on a farm in the Lake District to protect valuable species within an ESA since galloways unlike sheep will graze mature grass which smothers and restricts the growth of young plants.
